Keep every wrapped vehicle looking sharp, and know when to replace it
How to Care for, Remove and Replace Fleet Wraps
Wash fleet wraps by hand with mild soap, water and a soft sponge or microfiber cloth, avoid brush-style car washes, harsh solvents and high-pressure spray near edges, and plan to replace a wrap when it is faded, peeling or out of date. A professionally installed commercial wrap typically lasts about three to five years under normal conditions, and good care and covered parking can extend that.
For a fleet, the biggest difference is consistency. If every driver washes the vehicles a different way, some wraps age faster than others and the fleet stops looking like one company. This guide covers a care routine you can share with drivers, how to spot problems early, and how removal and replacement work at RoadRunner Wraps.

A Fleet Wrap Care Routine for Drivers
| Step | Recommended approach |
|---|---|
| Routine washing | Mild automotive soap and clean water |
| Cleaning tool | Soft sponge or microfiber cloth |
| Drying | Clean microfiber towel or air drying |
| Bird droppings, sap and insects | Remove gently and promptly, before they bake on in the sun |
| Fuel spills | Clean promptly without harsh solvent |
| Winter | Rinse road salt off promptly |
| Inspection | Check edges, seams and high-wear areas regularly |
What to Avoid
- Brush-style automatic car washes. Spinning brushes can scratch, lift or dull wrap material.
- Abrasive brushes, harsh solvents, petroleum-based cleaners and degreasers.
- Pressure washing as a routine method. High-pressure spray can lift edges and corners. If it can’t be avoided, follow the vinyl manufacturer’s and installer’s instructions and keep the spray away from edges.
- Gluing loose vinyl back down. Household adhesive can damage the graphic and leave residue. Photograph the area and call us instead.
- Washing right after installation. Skip the car wash for about a week while the adhesive finishes bonding, and ask us when it’s safe.
For a fleet, write the routine down and share it with every driver and anyone who washes the vehicles. Park indoors or under cover when practical, especially to protect hoods, roofs and other horizontal surfaces that get the most sun.

When Should a Fleet Wrap Be Replaced?
A wrap doesn’t need replacing because it reaches a certain birthday. Its condition and how well it still represents your company should decide the timing. Common signs include:
- Noticeable fading, discoloration, cracking or brittleness.
- Peeling edges, or vinyl lifting from recesses and seams.
- Significant scratches or tears.
- Graphics that no longer match across the fleet.
- An outdated phone number, web address, logo or service list.
A wrap that is faded or damaged can make a vehicle look neglected, which works against the business. Our guide to how long commercial truck wraps last explains what affects lifespan in more detail.
Repair a Panel or Rewrap?
Isolated damage can sometimes be fixed by replacing a single panel or door instead of wrapping the whole vehicle again. Whether that works depends on the age of the graphics, the available artwork and whether the new panel can match the existing colors.
We can also change a single panel, such as a new phone number, without a full rewrap. Photograph any lifted edge or tear and send it to us, and we’ll tell you whether it can be trimmed, resealed, patched or replaced.
Wrap Removal
We provide wrap removal when graphics need to be replaced. A quality wrap removed professionally typically comes off without harming factory paint in good condition. Paint that was already damaged or repainted is at higher risk.
Removal adds time to a project. Waiting until vinyl is severely cracked and brittle can make it harder, so it’s better to remove an aging wrap within its service period. Leave removal to a professional rather than peeling it yourself.
Planning a Fleet Replacement
- Inspect the fleet. Walk the vehicles and note faded areas, lifting edges and outdated information.
- Decide what changes. Keep the current design, update details like a phone number, or refresh the whole look. See the fleet wrap design guide.
- Prioritize the worst vehicles first. Replace the most worn vehicles before the rest, and tell us which have old wraps to remove.
- Schedule in waves. Bring vehicles in a few at a time so the fleet keeps working. See the fleet wrap checklist and how long a fleet wrap takes.

Fleet Wrap Care and Replacement FAQs
How often should fleet wraps be washed?
Regularly, by hand, with mild soap and water. Commercial vehicles may need more frequent cleaning than personal vehicles because of where they operate. Remove fuel, bird droppings, sap and insects promptly, and rinse off road salt in winter.
Can I pressure wash a wrapped vehicle?
Avoid it as a routine method. High-pressure spray can lift edges, seams and corners. If it can’t be avoided, follow the vinyl manufacturer’s and installer’s instructions and keep the spray away from edges.
How long do fleet wraps last?
A professionally installed wrap typically lasts about three to five years under normal conditions. Premium materials, regular care and covered parking can extend that, while heavy sun exposure and harsh washing can shorten it.
Will removing a wrap damage the paint?
A quality wrap removed professionally typically comes off without harming factory paint in good condition. Paint that was already damaged or repainted is at higher risk.
Can you replace just one damaged panel?
Often, yes. Isolated damage can sometimes be fixed by replacing a single panel or door instead of rewrapping the whole vehicle. It depends on the age of the graphics, the artwork and whether the colors can be matched.
